S&T Travel Guide: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
I went to Cabo last week for my Dad’s wedding and we had such an incredible time celebrating with our closest family and friends! it reminded me of how much I love traveling to Mexico and why it’s always been such a special place for me to visit, so many memories here. I’ve been going to Mexico since I was a baby, it’s the place my family has always traveled to on vacation. When you grow up on the West Coast, it seems like you’re either a “Mexico or Hawaii person” and we were always the Mexico travelers - all you need is a swim up bar, guac and a margarita and you’re on cloud nine - and it can be relatively affordable depending on how you plan. Out of all the cities in Mexico, I’ve been to Cabo San Lucas the most and have traveled there under many different circumstances — family vacations, college spring break, with significant others, with a group of friends, etc. Lots of ways to explore the city and have a good time tailored towards your desired experience. If you are looking for a party on the sand and a bikini contest at Mango Deck, you got it. Or, if you are wanting to relax in an infinity pool and sip on a marg, you can do that too!
Family trip to Cabo (Junior in High School):
I’ve rounded up all of my favorite spots from places to stay to where to eat. Majority of the suggestions below are my personal recommendations that I’ve been too, but I also included a couple other options that I have heard great thing about and are on my list to try next time I’m there.
TO STAY:
Esperanza Resort - this is where we stayed for our most recent trip to Cabo and it was absolutely incredible. Truly one of the best resorts I’ve ever been to! The hotel rooms were top of the line, location is incredible and the service is 10/10. It’s definitely pricey but if you are willing to splurge, it’s worth it. Heads up: the food + drinks at the resort are also very expensive (which is not typical for Mexico).
Pueblo Bonita - This hotel is right on Medano Beach and is a more affordable option! Large resort with everything you need.
One&Only Palmilla - I’ve never personally stayed here but it’s on my list for hotels to stay next! I’ve heard incredible things and many of you recommended it.
Diamante - a bit further out of town but great resort, especially if you love tp golf! There is a massive 10 acre lagoon which is insane. It’s close to both the Hard Rock and Nobu Hotel as well.
Waldorf Astoria Pedregal - I’ve never personally stayed here but it’s on my list for hotels to stay next! I’ve heard incredible things and many of you recommended it.
TO EAT:
The Office - Right on the beach! Such a fun place to grab drinks and food. This is probably one of the most touristy places in Cabo but it’s for a reason!
Los Tres Gallos - The best ambiance, delicious food + drinks and a mariachi band! Literally all you need in a Mexican restaurant can be found here.
Flora Farms - I went here for the first time probably 8 years ago and was blown away. I think it was the first “farm to table” type restaurant I had ever been too actually.
Edith’s - Okay this place is so fucking fun. Epitome of a Mexican restaurant in Cabo, very authentic and fun, basically just makes you feel like you need to be drinking a grande margarita the whole time. Make sure to have the balloon artist come to your table, we went here with my family last year and it got so out of control haha.
Romeo and Julietta - Delicious upscale Italian food right in town! Italian food in Mexico sounds strange, but honestly they know how to do it rightttt.
TO PARTY:
Mango Deck - Have you ever really been to Cabo if you haven’t gone to Mango Deck? Nope.
Squid Roe - Shocked this place has a website lol but it is a must. Very college spring break vibes, I’ve definitely danced in that cage on the top floor before.
The office (mentioned earlier) is a great place to eat but also to party during the day!
Cabo Wabo - You must hang upside and take a shot (see photo below).
Slim's Elbow Bar - World’s smallest bar! Fun to check out for a hot second and grab a tequila shot.
Just for fun, here are a few photos from College Spring Break in Cabo:
TO DO:
Medano Beach - this is the beach that a ton of hotels are located on and it’s always a party on the sand. You can safely swim in the ocean here and there are a ton of restaurants, bars, etc. all walking distance.
Rent ATV’s - this is so much fun!! Just make sure you book directly through your hotel or a credible company.
Visit El Arco de Cabo on a boat!
Snorkeling - I haven’t personally been snorkeling in Cabo but I’ve heard its a good time.
There are a ton of boat rental companies, everything from sail boats to yachts, and you can easily find one to book depending on the experience you want.
OTHER TIPS:
I prefer to schedule transportation to/from airport with the hotel directly. That way you know how much it is going to be beforehand, you can charge to the room, and you feel safe especially being in a foreign country.
There is a rainy season so check dates to make sure you aren’t traveling during this time. I’ve gone in September when the weather was terrible and it’s such a bummer.
There are so many fun things to do in Cabo! You really can’t go wrong even just exploring on your own and stumbling across a random taco bar.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Keep it Sweaty,
Jo
