Spring Clean Your Life: Declutter, Reduce Stress and Create a Relaxing Environment
Happy spring babes!
We are always making an effort to eliminate any messiness in our lives to keep things a little more simple and streamlined. With the start of spring here, it’s an excuse to do some seasonal cleaning. Rather than just the conventional “spring cleaning” which entails a vacuum, broom and maybe some Windex, we highly recommend cleansing some other aspects of your life to improve your mental health as well.
It’s time to minimize physical clutter and reduce all the excess noise that happens in our lives (like non stop notifications) to improve mental clarity and overall health.
How to spring clean your life:
1. Clean up your inbox and unsubscribe
This is a HUGE one. We use the app/website Unroll.Me which helps you easily unsubscribe in a time effective way. We recommend unsubscribing from any unused memberships too like video streaming services, food delivery apps, etc. Look through your bank statements and see what subscription services are charging you every month without even realizing it!
2. Go through your fridge
We always dread this one but there is something so satisfying about having a sparkling clean and organized fridge. We try to do this a couple times per month, but try to throw away anything you won’t use in the next 2 weeks and check expiration dates. Like all those old salad dressing bottles that stock up in the back corner of your fridge.
3. Declutter your closet
Grab two garbage bags and make it a goal to fill them up with clothes (& anything else). One for donations and the other to sell online! We use @poshmark to sell items that are in good/great condition or are new with tags. Not only are you decluttering your space but you can make some extra money too! We also like to donate our clothes and extra items to local donation centers.
4. Use the unfollow button
This one is a mental health check; unfollow people who you just don’t have the desire or space to see their posts. Jo does this on her personal all the time and it’s so refreshing. If you click on who you’re following there is a new feature that will list “Most Shown In Feed” and “Least Interacted With”, this should give you a head start. Protect what you’re consuming and don’t feel guilty for refining your content consumption.
5. Deep clean the house, like really deep clean.
This is an obvious one but dedicate an entire morning, (and/or afternoon) depending on how dirty your house is, to deep clean every nook and cranny in your abode. Especially spaces that aren’t immediately visible to visitors but ones that you utilize; like dresser drawers, nightstands, cabinets, etc. It’s easy to clutter up spaces that we don’t look at when immediately stepping into our own, but we all have at least one junk drawer/cabinet that needs some organizing. If you haven’t used the piles of stuff in there for 2+ months, then you can toss it and we guarantee you’ll never think about it again. While you’re at it, clean out your car too. It probably needs a wash.
6. Clean up your home screen
We look at our phones an extensive amount of time per day, so clean up your mobile device home! Delete apps on your phone you haven’t used in a month and you can always re download if you need to. Removing the home screen clutter minimizes what you’re consuming, creates organization and honestly just feels refreshing. We like to organize our apps into folders as well i.e. health, finances, social media, etc. to keep things organized.
7. Organize your finances
We know a lot of people dread this one but spend some time to check in on your finances. Money is often one of the biggest stressors and it provides so much financial freedom when you dedicate time to check your credit score, do your taxes and make sure your debts are paid!
