Talking Infrared Sauna Benefits with Perspire Sauna Studio
We are so excited to welcome the Perspire Sauna Studio team to our blog! Today we will be talking about all things saunas and the many incredible benefits that they provide. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Perspire Sauna Studio, they have multiple locations in Southern California and across the US. from Florida to Texas.
You can step into any of their studios and will be immediately greeted by the friendly and welcoming front desk staff who provide you with your assigned room number. There are about 10 individual rooms per location and each room has their own private sauna fully loaded with a TV (Like major Netflix and chill vibes…. or Netflix and Heat I suppose?!), Eucalyptus towels, and weights if desired. If we’re not in the mood to watch TV, we like to lay down, shut our eyes and turn on a podcast (you can find our podcast recommendations listed here) to get into full relax mode. Everything can be adjusted to your liking as well - the temperature, light color, length, etc. it’s really just tailored to the desired personal experience you’ll enjoy the most.
Perspire combines the centuries-old practice of sauna with the modern science of infrared technology and color light therapy to transform your health and wellness. Not only does the sauna feel good in the moment, it has a long list of incredible benefits to rejuvenate and detox. The combination of an infrared sauna and color light therapy invigorates and refreshes the body and mind. The infrared heat cleanses the body of toxins and releases tension. The color light restores balance.
We will be sharing an in depth list of sauna benefits below as well as some Q&A responses as well. We’ve asked our audience to submit all of their questions around saunas and have included a few of the most asked questions for you to answer. So let’s kick things off!

Let’s talk benefits:
Detox the Body - Toxins of all kinds surround us every day - heavy metals in our environment, hormones in our meat, and even pesticides on our produce - but Perspire is here to help you detox, be your best and feel your best. Infrared sauna heat increases your blood circulation to help stimulate the sweat glands, releasing the accumulated highly toxic metals we come in contact with such as lead, mercury, nickel, alcohol, nicotine, salt, sulfuric acid, and other organic and inorganic compounds.
Relax the Mind - Literally melt sweat away. Infrared sauna therapy helps you relax while getting an invigorating deep tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed, rejuvenated and renewed. We’re unlike traditional saunas, our infrared saunas provide a gentle, soothing therapeutic heat that promotes relaxation in a zen setting. It feels like your body is being warmed by the sun during a beach day (minus the harmful UVA rays)
Burn Calories - You’re not just losing water weight during a session. You’re burning anywhere between 200-400 calories in 40 minutes -- doing nothing but sweating because as you relax in our infrared saunas, your body is actually hard at work producing sweat, pumping blood, and burning calories. As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart will work harder to pump blood at a greater rate to boost circulation. This increase in your metabolism will burn calories all while you relax and watch Netflix!
Ease Pain - Active Recovery is vital. The deep heat that occurs during our infrared sauna sessions helps peripheral blood vessels dilate, bringing relief and healing to muscle and soft tissue injuries. Increased blood circulation carries off metabolic waste products and delivers oxygen-rich blood to oxygen-depleted muscle, so they recover faster. The heat also helps to reduce soreness. Muscles relax most readily when tissues are warm, for greater flexibility and range of motion. Infrared heat helps to relieve muscle tension and thereby helping your body to make the most of its intended healing abilities.
Enhance Immunity - We wash our hands, take our vitamins, and avoid germs the best we can, but without a healthy immune system we are vulnerable. Each session helps boost your immune system by raising your internal core temperature (2-3 degrees) inducing an artificial fever. A fever is the body’s natural mechanism to strengthen and accelerate the immune response, as seen in the case of infection or when the body is fighting viruses.
Clear Skin - You can release toxins and stress to help clear skin. The profuse sweating achieved during a 40-minute infrared sauna session carries off deeply embedded impurities and dead skin cells. This leaves the skin glowing and immaculately clean. Increased circulation draws your skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface and as a result, you will see improved tone, elasticity, texture and fresh color. Increased circulation has also been shown to relieve acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, lesions and cuts.
Improve Sleep - Infrared sauna sessions promote relaxation, help balance stress hormones and naturally calms the nervous system thus releasing tension in the body and mind. Late night sessions, combined with blue color light therapy will help improve sleep even more.

Q&A:
1. What do the colors in the sauna mean?
Those are more than just colored mood lights in our saunas. They are medical grade color light therapy (CLT). CLT is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic light to treat diseases. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to treat various diseases and ailments. Each color helps the body in different ways.
Red is great to increase energy, cellular growth and improves metabolism.
Orange helps spark joy, is great for menstrual cramps, and aids in repairing inflammation of the kidneys, gallstones, and sinus.
Yellow awakens mental inspiration, helps repair scarred tissues and eczema and increases our awareness.
Green helps with headaches, relaxes muscles and provides a feeling of peace and harmony.
Blue encourages great lotus, brings peace to mind and helps nervousness.
Purple helps with muscle cramps, sciatica and provides nourishment cells to the upper brain.
2. How long should I be in the sauna for?
We block off our rooms for 55 minutes, 40 minutes for you session and 15 minutes to cool down. If the sauna cabin becomes too hot you can crack the door open for fresh air or turn down the temperature. Our saunas can reach 158 degrees and we recommend starting at a lower temperature for first timers.
3. How often do I need to go in the sauna to see the benefits?
You can see benefits in your first session! But the more the better! Based on your individual health and wellness goals, we recommend at least 2-3 times a week. For even better results and increased weight loss, we recommend, 4-5 times a week after immediately after a workout. We have an IRx program in Studio that helps decide with the Guest how many sessions they need to reach their individual goals.
