Jo's Hair FAQ
Thank you for submitting all of your hair questions via IG stories! I thought it would be easiest to compile all of the frequently asked ones we received into a blog post so I could provide more in depth responses with links, details, etc.
As always, let us know if you have any other questions!

Q: What dry shampoo do you use most often?
My products of choice are Not Your Mothers Haircare Clean Freak, Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo and The Ouai Super Dry Shampoo. I recommend having multiple bottles on hand to keep at home, in your gym bag, in your car, etc. Start off by committing to an extra day more than what you’re use to, and use dry shampoo to get you through.
Q: What do you ask for when you get a haircut?
You can find a whole breakdown of exactly what I ask for in this video.
Q: Do you have extensions?
Nope, I’ve never had extensions!
Q: How do you get your hair so long and thick?
I feel like I’d be lying if I said that a lot of it wasn’t due to genetics. Even though I take really good care of my hair and keep it as healthy as I can, the women in my family have always been pretty genetically lucky with thick, long hair. My grammy’s hair is longer than mine right now!
Q: How often do you wash your hair?
Thursdays and Sundays ONLY.
Q: How do you keep your hair so healthy being blonde?
Minimal hair washing to maintain natural oils. I let my hair air dry as much as possible and will usually only blow dry when it’s still a tad bit damp so it only takes a couple minutes! This may seem like an obvious one but I definitely don’t do my hair everyday so I can avoid heat.
Q: How do you wash the hair on just the top of your head?
We have stories of this saved in our “Hair” highlight on Instagram but I’ll make a reel/IGTV video on this soon. Basically just put the bottom two thirds of your hair in a low bun and shampoo the top third (and any front layers/bangs) with a tiny bit of shampoo and conditioner. Once I’m done rinsing I throw that in a bun as well then blow dry. Once it’s dry, I style my hair like usual!
Q: Do you take any supplements to help your hair grow?
I don’t take any specific supplements for just hair growth but I am a firm believer that the biggest impact comes from your diet. Eating clean and taking care of my body has naturally helped me have healthy hair, nails, etc. I do take Vitamin C and D, and recently started taking collagen but have not taken it long enough to see any effects.
Q: What if your hair is sopping wet with sweat? Do you still try to avoid washing?
If I'm not going anywhere and I just washed my hair the day before then I’d still try to avoid washing. I wouldn’t try this out before getting ready to go out somewhere though! This rarely happens but if it is an absolute must, like there is no way to salvage, then I’ll rinse it.
Q: What hair brush do you use?
I use this wet brush in the shower and also when I am brushing through after it dries a bit. When styling I avoid using the wet brush as I find it makes hair a strange texture - I like to use a round brush or one that helps with volume when styling!
Q: Any advice for a nourishing conditioner for repairing damage?
I use Kerastase shampoo, purple shampoo and conditioner You can buy it in a three pack here to save money. Olaplex has great product too, especially their hair mask!
Q: What is your full hair routine?
My entire routine is linked here. Included as much detail as possible!
Q: How do you curl your hair?
I like to mix it up but I usually use a curler with a 1.5” barrel and wrap my hair around it (I recommend using a heat protectant glove if you’ve never done this before). I recently got the T3 Twirl Trio Wand but was previously using just a regular curler with the same barrel size.
Here are a couple tutorials:
Q. How do you wear your hair when you workout?
I wear my hair up in a high ponytail for almost all workouts except for yoga. During Yoga I wear my hair up in a bun.
Q: Where do you get your hair done?
I go to Tera Stephens at TReSs Apothecary in Newport Beach. You can find them here.
Q: Do you ever have a kink from ponytail holders after working out? What hair ties do you use?
I like to use Teleties or any type of fabric scrunchie. Lately I’ve been using velour fabric ones from Amazon and they help prevent hair breakage!
Q: What is your natural hair before blow drying and curling it?
It’s just kinda… boring hair? Not pin straight, not curly, I suppose the best way to describe it is a tiny bit wavy with not a ton of volume?
